BEGINNING SCULPTURE COURSE

This course provides an introduction to the nature of marble and the means by which we can work with it.Using the traditional techniques of the sculptor and stonemason, methods of transferring ideas onto a block and finding form within it will be discovered. The aim is to complete a sculpture and return home with a finished piece. In this course students will work directly on the stone to acquire basic skills and understand of the material and tools through an hands-on approach. Students will choose the piece of marble and use chisels, hammers and finishing tools such as stones, rasps, sand paper..ect PREREQUISITES: NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.

ADVANCED SCULPTURE COURSE

This course is for more experienced people and artists who want to develop their skills or who want to learn how to work with marble. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the technical information required to work with marble using automatic tools and cutting machines. Practicing is usually carried out by utilizing a sketch or a model brought by the participant.

EQUIPMENT

All course participants are responsible for equipping themselves with proper attire such as protective glasses, gloves, work wearing, strong shoes, and in case of mechanical work, earmuffs , dust mask .

PERSONAL INSURANCE

It is responsibility of the participants to take out personal insurance against work injuries.

LUNCH BREAK

The lunch break is scheduled between 12:30 pm and 14:00 pm. Participants can provide their own picnic lunch. A kitchen is available for food preparation and participants usually eat lunch together in the garden attached to to the studio. Throughout the working day, course participants are welcome to use the studio facilities to make tea or coffee. It is possibile as well to order good food on Catering (usual system )
 

DURATION AND TIMETABLE

Every course lasts 10 working days with a day break in the midle of the course . Upon request is possible to agree different attendance dates with the teacher and attend one week course. The courses include a visit to the famous “Michelangelo Quarry” (400 meters from the Alnassar Atelier). There will be the possibility of taking part at cultural events and exhibitions.

ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE

Arrival in Carrara should be scheduled for the day before the starting date of the chosen course and the departure should have place not beyond 11.00 am of the morning following the last day of the course. Once arrived to Carrara, you will find a person at the train station (Carrara-Avenza stop) or in front of the Carrara Hospital who will take you to the accommodation.

PRICE

A 10 DAYS MARBLE SCULPTURE COURSE: 900 €

PAYMENT TERMS AND CONDITION

Reservations will be valid after completion of the BOOKING FORM and the payment of 250 €. The booking form contains all the information necessary to make the bank transfer or to pay through Paypal. The rest of the payment must be paid on arrival before the course begins.

MATERIAL

A piece of “White Carrara Marble” (rough marble block of max. Kg 50) is included in the price. At additional cost we can provide marble blocks in different sizes and types cut to size and ready on the work site. The completed piece will belong to the course participants. The cost of packing and transportation home of the completed sculpture is not included. The atelier will be able to arrange the packing and the delivery of the completed piece to the participant’s home address at their own expense.

TOOLS

For those who follow the Beginning Courses: hand tools are provided by the atelier. For those who follow the Advanced Courses: students can bring and use their own mechanical tools. If students are unable to bring their own tools, they can be rented through the Atelier. The Atelier rents mechanical and electrical machinery (compressed air hammers, flexible and disk-cutting machine). Disk and chisels are excluded, we will inform you where to procure them locally. The cost of renting these mechanical tools is 10 euro per day.

TRIP

The courses include a visit to the famous “Michelangelo Quarry” (700 meters from the AlNassar Sculpture Studio).

TRANSPORT

Participants are asked to communicate the time of their arrival in Carrara. When you arrive in Carrara, you will be picked up either at the train station or in front of the Carrara Hospital and taken to your accommodation. Included in the price is the transport from your accommodation in Carrara to the Alnassar Atelier (for those who do not have a car).

RECREATIONAL AREA AND KITCHEN

A kitchen is available for food preparation and participants usually eat lunch together in the garden attached to to the studio. Throughout the working day, course participants are welcome to use the studio facilities to make tea or coffee.

ACCOMODATION

Confortable single bedrooms with private bathroom. The accomodation includes breakfast. Bed&Breakfast in the historical centre of Carrara, around the Cathedral and the house in which Michelangelo used to live during his trips to Carrara. Accessible via public transport.
